Audio Summaries

Making "tape summaries" or now "sound track summaries."

This involves more or less continuous typing while a track is playing, thus making a reasonably full summary of the contents of the track as though you were there 'live' keeping a record of the talks before the days of tape recorders....

Frequently when making new paragraphs, etc. add the elapsed time in the margin or at the beginning of the paragraph. This is helpful to locate sections quickly.

Looking at a tape, CD or date of a sound-file doesn't give much of an idea of the content, but speed reading a 'track summary' does give a very good idea of what is on the track. Thus it is very useful to make these summaries, especially so when coupled with a few important notes re quality/content/suitability and whether previously published.

A 45 minute track, therefore takes an hour or so to do, and if some sections are Bengali or Kirttan, then clearly the time would be reduced. This is a steady, much appreciated service.

Afterwards, a once through reading takes out the worst of the typos and gives the opportunity of inserting a few additional notes. Adding at the top a brief 'summary of the summary' is particularly useful.

Please type into a regular text document, Microsoft Word or html document.

After doing one or two, compress them using Stuffit (on a Mac) or make into zip files (on a PC) and send me as attachments to an email. I'll give you feedback which should then help form the basic framework for future summaries.

Greatly appreciated! and with lots of respects...
